How to regain your motivation in lockdown
As we come into our 4th (Yes 4th) lockdown it may just become easier and easier to lose motivation to look after yourself. Just know, you are not alone as lockdowns around the world have everyone in similar boats.
So the question remains, how do we stay motivated during lockdown?
One of the best things to keep motivated is by staying in a routine, this is one of the main reasons as to why so many people are struggling. Pre pandemic most people had routines, it would have been second nature to hit the gym on the way to or from the office… now that most people are working from home or their preferred gym has closed the ‘normal’ routine can’t continue. While this pandemic may have drained some of your desire to work out, it doesn’t mean you should ditch your routine more so than ever!
One of the many benefits of exercise is that is keeps our immune system functioning and is also an excellent tool in stress management.
So how can we find motivation to keep up a routine in lockdown, Here’s some tips and strategies.
1. Be Kind To Yourself
Don’t expect yourself to be hitting crazy new fitness goals and don’t beat yourself up if there is a day or 2 where you just get your body moving eg going for a walk is still better than sitting and watching Netflix all day.
2. Set New Goals
Setting goals in general is a great way to stay motivated, In lockdown we may have to take a look at our fitness goals and look at new ways to achieve them or look at adjusting them to make them more attainable.
3. Stay Accountable
Once you set a goal, being accountable can help you achieve it. There are different ways to be held accountable whether it’s holding yourself accountable or utilising friends and family, or even your trainers at Fit For Life.
4. Look Forward
If you’re ever feeling too tired to exercise, try focusing not on how you are feeling now but energised you will feel when you’re done. It’s important to stay optimistic and to enjoy the little things, whether it’s a chance to see friends over zoom, playing your favourite music, doing activities that you enjoy or even rewarding yourself after completing a session.
